Usher addressed a resurfaced clip of him accidentally headbutting Nicki Minaj during their performance at the 2014 MTV VMAs in a recent interview on “The Breakfast Club.” The R&B legend explained the incident, attributing it to Jamaican culture and emphasizing it was a playful moment while he was immersed in playing his bass.
During the conversation, Usher admitted, “I think I was reaching a bit when I smacked her [butt], though. I shouldn’t have smacked her butt. I shouldn’t have did that.” Co-host Jess Hilarious jokingly suggested lifting Minaj instead, to which Usher responded with humor, saying, “I mean, I was lifting.”
Last week, Boosie Badazz reacted to the viral clip on social media, noting Minaj’s surprised reaction. Boosie emphasized the importance of adhering to rehearsals and the unscripted nature of the incident, stating, “If it ain’t in rehearsals, you don’t do it, period. I don’t give a d**n. She’s not an actor, it’s not a movie. She plays the piano!”
Minaj and Usher had collaborated previously on the track “Lil’ Freak” in 2010, featured in Usher’s album “Raymond v. Raymond.”
