Jake Paul, known for his high-profile boxing matches against former NBA players, retired mixed martial artists, and journeyman professionals, is gearing up for his most viral bout yet. Scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on July 20th, Paul will go head-to-head with boxing legend Mike Tyson in a fight that will be broadcast live on Netflix.
Tyson, a six-time heavyweight champion boasting an impressive record of 58 wins and 44 knockouts, is considered one of the most formidable boxers in history. However, at 58 years old, Tyson’s age has raised questions about his ability to compete at the highest level. In his last bout, a November 2020 exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr., Tyson fought to a draw. Ironically, this event also featured Paul’s second professional fight against former NBA player Nate Robinson.
With a significant age gap of three decades, Paul, 27, holds a professional record of 9-1 with 6 knockouts over his four-year career. Following his victory over Robinson, Paul has secured wins against former UFC stars Nate Diaz, Anderson Silva, and Tyron Woodley (twice), as well as journeyman professionals like Andre August and Ryan Bourland, both of whom he knocked out in the first round. Paul’s only career loss came against Tommy Fury in February 2023.
Netflix’s foray into combat sports comes after the media giant inked a deal with Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) for a boxing card last November. However, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations has yet to clarify whether Tyson and Paul’s match will be classified as an official pro bout or an exhibition.
Commenting on the upcoming fight, Tyson expressed his excitement, acknowledging Paul’s growth as a boxer and the unique dynamic of their matchup. Meanwhile, Paul reflected on his journey from viral sensation to facing Tyson himself, highlighting the significance of the event as a testament to his accomplishments with MVP in just a few years.
