Lin-Manuel Miranda and American playwright and actress Eisa Davis are teaming up to produce a concept album inspired by the 1979 cult classic film The Warriors. The project has gained a significant boost with Brooklyn-born rapper Nas joining as the executive producer.
The album will feature 26 tracks and promises performances from a range of prominent artists, although the full list of contributors has yet to be disclosed. The team working on the album also includes notable producer Mike Elizondo.
The Warriors, directed by Walter Hill, is a screen adaptation of Sol Yurick’s 1965 novel. It narrates the story of a fictional New York gang falsely accused of murdering a high-ranking gang leader, forcing them to navigate their way from the Bronx to Coney Island.
Miranda and Davis shared in a statement: “Over the last three years, we have been transforming the journey of the Warriors from the South Bronx to Coney Island into music. This process has allowed us to collaborate with many artists we admire, and we plan to reveal their contributions in the coming weeks. We are eager to bring these songs to our audience.”
The album, with Nas as the executive producer, is scheduled for release through Atlantic Records on October 18.
