Kehlani has announced the release date for their highly anticipated mixtape, While We Wait 2, following the success of their June project, CRASH. Fans can expect the new mixtape to drop on August 28, just one week before the start of their “CRASH WORLD TOUR.”
The singer revealed the cover art for While We Wait 2, which reflects a similar visual style to its predecessor. The announcement has been met with excitement from fans and industry peers alike. Supportive comments from fellow musicians such as Blxst, Reggie Becton, and Jordan Adetunji have also highlighted the buzz surrounding the new project.
While We Wait initially set the stage for Kehlani’s second studio album and the arrival of their child with ex-partner Javaughn Young-White. This mixtape featured tracks like “Footsteps,” “Nunya,” and “Nights Like This,” which were showcased in a performance for NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” in July. The 2019 release also boasted collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, Dom Kennedy, 6LACK, and Musiq Soulchild.
The forthcoming mixtape’s release is strategically timed to precede the artist’s extensive North American tour, which includes stops in cities such as Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Los Angeles. Supporting acts Anycia and FLO will join Kehlani on the road.
The CRASH album, which prompted this tour, featured hit singles like “After Hours” and “Next 2 U.” Reflecting on the project, Kehlani shared that the album was created in various cities with a focus on capturing the moment’s energy and spontaneity.
