A$AP Rocky is clearing the air on any lingering rumors about a beef with Drake. In a recent interview with Billboard, ahead of his much-anticipated album ‘Don’t Be Dumb’, the Harlem rapper made it clear that he’s not interested in engaging in any lyrical battles with Drake or anyone else. Despite the long-standing narrative that the two have been rivals, Rocky is putting those rumors to rest, emphasizing that such conflicts aren’t worth his time or energy.
Speaking to Billboard, Rocky addressed the situation bluntly: “You got to realize, certain ns was throwing shots for years. I ain’t in the middle of that shit. That’s not how I retaliate right now. I got bigger fish to fry than some pussy boys. It is real beef outside. It is real. Ns getting really clipped and blitzed every day. Ns sniping ns every day. That little kitty shit ain’t about nothing.” His comments suggest that he’s more focused on real-life issues and not petty disputes.
This statement comes just a year after Drake allegedly took a jab at Rocky in his track “Fear of Heights” from the For All The Dogs album, where he rapped, “I had way badder bitches than you, TBH Yeah, That man, he still with you, he can’t leave you/ Y’all go on vacation, I bet it’s Antilles.” Fans quickly speculated that this was directed at Rocky, especially after Rocky’s verse on Kid Cudi’s “Wow” seemed to respond with a subtle hit back, referencing “mandrake” as a medicinal plant: “My boo got the Glizzy, keep the receipt if it’s beef. Cheffin’ mans, Boyardee, with the latest Goyard/ Me and my vamp bae got our own handshake/ These n****s can’t stomach me, gotta go get a mandrake.”
Further fueling the speculation, Rocky’s appearance on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Show of Hands” led fans to believe he was referencing Drake’s baby mama. Drake then seemingly responded on his “Family Matters” track, and Rocky followed up with “Highjack” from ‘Don’t Be Dumb,‘ where he rapped, “These n****s want my wife bad, the people want my next track. The coppers want my black ass, fucked up, but it’s like that.”
Despite the back-and-forth, Rocky seems more focused on his upcoming projects than on reigniting any feuds. His album ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ has been delayed until the fall, but fans can expect more updates soon. Stay tuned for what’s next from A$AP Rocky.
