How would you describe the album elijah.?

This album is all about complete transparency into my process of “becoming”. I’ve teased electronic elements blending with soul and even gospel at times but never as fearless as I was able to convey on this album. In the past I’ve sort of been in the position of asking permission to be a little strange (laughs), as opposed to this time declaring it as a part of who I really just am.

You’ve been in the industry for a while now, collaborating with major artists and consistently releasing your own projects. How do you stay creatively inspired in an industry that’s constantly evolving?

I try to always study. Even if I don’t get it at first, I’ll listen a second third and sometimes fourth time if I see it connecting with the world around me… there’s always a natural sense of curiosity and wanting to understand. Especially when it comes to the greats that came before and those among us now + also coming up next.

Looking back on your career, what was the moment you realized you had broken through as not just a songwriter, but a solo artist who can stand on his own?

I would say when Bijoux22 dropped and got the response it did. My family opened their social media and saw people posting and sharing my music and came back to me like, Wow, I guess it’s actually happening. Snoh Aalegra and I were label mates around that time as well as super champions of each other, and I remember that holiday we all went home & she came back to tell me “yooo they were listening to you out there in Sweden.” She’s always been super supportive & I think that was the first time I felt wow I’m not just a songwriter if people around the world have heard my voice.

You’ve worked across different genres, from R&B to pop and hip-hop. Are there any genres or styles you haven’t explored yet but are eager to experiment with?

Hmm that’s a good question. Not to sound cliche, but try not to hear or consider the limitations of genre when creating for my own, especially as of late, but I am excited to dip my toe a little deeper in some punk rock vibes soon.

Did you have any specific fashion icons or inspirations in mind while creating your look for the “Ghostbuster” video?

Definitely! Prince, Hendrix, and Bowie are always front of mind when I put anything on, but in this video we really wanted to channel a male grace high fashion elevated approach. Yashua Simmons who is a friend but also a style icon of mine, really helped bring that to life.

What’s your songwriting space/studio like? Is there any gear that particularly inspires you?

Just a guitar, even though I can’t play that well, (laughs) I can use it enough to show whoever I’m working at least the direction I want the progression or changes to go… oh and a good mic, cause being a student from the musical school of the Great Mariah Carey, I find I’m either at a gentle whisper or blaring max volume.

The single “Sugarwater & Lime” uses a unique metaphor for heartbreak. What prompted you to use that imagery, and what does it mean to you?

I was in a space where really felt forced to quickly learn the inevitable of Love & Heartbreak. That prompted me to find the good in it all which calls for accountability. I was just walking one day to the gym and that concept came to me and wrote it down thinking hmmm I gotta come back to that when I’ve flushed out my feelings a little bit more and I did.

“Westside Story” features vivid storytelling. Can you tell us more about the character Danny and his journey in the song?

Danny represents the all American kid who didn’t quite live up to the expectations of the all American dream. It speaks to having all the tools (I’m making bunny ears as I typed that) yet one bad decision, one lapse in judgement changing everything. Such is life, right?

How do you determine which songs are meant for you and which are better suited for other artists? Is there a specific feeling or intuition you rely on?

Yes. If I connect with a song deeply you most likely have to pry it from my cold hands. People ask my how I can give certain songs away and I often reply they were never mine. What I write for me… no one else can sing. Music for me now is pure self therapy that I can only hope people find themselves healing through and with me. Songs I write for others I wouldn’t sing because they’re not my story to tell I’m just there to help illustrate.

How do you feel about the growing influence of AI in music production? Do you see it as a tool that enhances creativity, or are there concerns about its impact on the authenticity of music?

I think it’s like food. Too much of anything can kill you but extract a little poison from here, mix it with a little this, sprinkle a little that and there you have it! Medicine so for me the opportunity is limitless; it just depends on how far we allow it to go. I for one don’t see a world where machines will ever be able to mimic human emotion so as long as your heart is in it.. you’ll survive.

What’s something about Elijah Blake, the person, that fans don’t get to see as much but plays a huge role in your music?

People are always surprised at how silly I am (laughs). Maybe it’s because of the music I make but Elijah the person, is every bit of big kid having fun in the playground of life who also just learned how to cry a year or so ago, and that was pretty cool to experience too if I’m being honest.

Elijah Blake‘s ability to transcend musical boundaries while maintaining authenticity underscores his position as a trailblazer in the industry. As he continues to explore new creative territories and expand his influence in both music and fashion, there’s no doubt that elijah. will leave a lasting impact.
