Gervonta Davis to Retire from Boxing After 2025

Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the undefeated WBA lightweight champion, has announced plans to retire from boxing following the 2025 season. Speaking to reporters earlier this week, Davis expressed his discontent with the sport and his intentions to step away. “After next year, I’m out of it. Yeah, out of this sport,” Davis declared. He further elaborated on his frustrations, stating, “Shit’s trash. This shit is trash, garbage. Fed up. I’m fed up with the whole shit.”

At just 30 years old, Davis is regarded as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers globally, boasting an impeccable record of 30 wins with no losses, including 28 knockouts. His career has seen him claiming titles across multiple weight classes, including the featherweight and super lightweight divisions, besides his current reign in the lightweight category.

Despite his plans to retire in 2025, Davis aims to compete in three more matches before concluding his illustrious career. He is scheduled to face Lamont Roach, the WBA super featherweight champion, on March 1. While his opponents for subsequent fights remain unconfirmed, there is speculation about possible rematches with notable figures such as Ryan Garcia and potential bouts against Vasiliy Lomachenko or Shakur Stevenson.

As he looks toward the future, Davis shared his aspirations beyond the ring: “I just want to be able to make money and stay out the way, that’s it. I want to be living without being seen.” His impending retirement marks the end of an era for a fighter known for his dominance and charisma in the sport.
