Neo-soul legend Erykah Badu is returning to the music industry with much anticipation in the form of her first studio album in 15 years. The iconic singer has announced that she is working on her sixth solo album, which will be produced entirely by hip-hop legend The Alchemist.
Erykah Badu has been praised for her trailblazing effort in the neo-soul movement, with albums like Baduizm and New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) having lasting impacts on the music industry. With her latest full-length album being 2010, Badu has been in hot demand to travel overseas and work on tracks like Rapsody’s “3:AM,” which earned her a Grammy Award in February.
The forthcoming album, yet to be titled and released, will be something special. The Alchemist, whose work with Earl Sweatshirt and Freddie Gibbs has also been popular, lends a unique vision to Badu’s vintage R&B, jazz, and hip-hop rhythms.
During a recent Billboard interview, Erykah Badu explained how much she had been anticipating the project and stated that it had consumed most of her time. The collaboration is set to introduce new elements but maintain the soulful touch Badu is renowned for.
Badu will be making an appearance at J. Cole’s Dreamville Festival in April 2025, where her latest material can be previewed by the public. She will also be awarded the Billboard Women in Music Icon Award later this month for her enduring contribution to the music industry.
