In an exclusive interview with HipHopDX, Swizz Beatz provided a glimpse into the possibility of releasing a new posthumous album from the legendary DMX.
The renowned producer disclosed that there is ample material to create a follow-up to the late artist’s “Exodus,” which was released posthumously. However, Swizz Beatz acknowledged that considerations beyond the sheer availability of content come into play. “We have other songs. Can we make a new X album? For sure,” Beatz said. “Will I make another X album? I don’t know. It has to feel good.”
Delving into the creative process behind “Exodus,” Swizz Beatz emphasized that DMX was actively involved in the production and direction of the album. “He was like, ‘Yo, I don’t wanna shoot up and kill everybody in a verse — that’s not what I’m doing.’ He was preparing to go to the next level and do TV shows, and he was preparing to graduate his brand,” shared Beatz. The late artist’s intention to evolve beyond aggressive themes was reflected in his restrained approach on the album.
Swizz Beatz shed light on DMX‘s eclectic musical taste, revealing, “I never heard him listening to that type of music; I always heard X listening to old classics, amazing music. And I felt that he was at a point in his life where he was like, ‘I want to change up the energy.'”
