Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign‘s collaborative effort, VULTURES 1, has clinched the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart in its debut week. The project garnered 148,000 album-equivalent units, with streaming contributing 129,000, sales at 18,000, and TEA units at 1,000. This accomplishment ties Kanye with Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand, each boasting 11 No. 1 LPs.
Ahead of Kanye are Drake and Taylor Swift with 13, JAY-Z with 14, and The Beatles leading with 19 No. 1 albums. For Ty Dolla Sign, this marks his first No. 1 and his second appearance in the Top 10 overall, following 2020’s Featuring Ty Dolla Sign.
Reacting to the success of VULTURES 1, Kanye described it as a “beautiful time,” while Ty Dolla Sign shared the sentiment on his Instagram Stories, signaling the number one with his index finger.
Released on Feb. 10 after several delays, VULTURES 1 featured collaborations with North West, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Quavo, YG, Nipsey Hussle, and more. Notable tracks include “KEYS TO MY LIFE,” “BACK TO ME” featuring Freddie Gibbs, “DO IT,” and “CARNIVAL,” the latter currently contending for No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The album faced challenges with samples and distribution, briefly being removed from streaming services due to a dispute with FUGA, later returning under Label Engine.
Fans can catch Kanye and Ty Dolla Sign live in Milan on Feb. 22 and Paris on Feb. 23. The duo is set to headline Rolling Loud California 2024 in March, alongside Future with Metro Boomin, Nicki Minaj, and Post Malone, among others. VULTURES 2 is slated for release on DSPs on March 8, just a week before the festival.
