Question: Your latest single, “New Style,” has been receiving a lot of attention. Can you share the inspiration behind the track and what it means to you personally?
Griff Galexxzee: “New Style” inspiration is drawn from many sources. First, I wanted to draw inspiration from some of my musical influences, Pharell Williams and Mickey Dolenz. Their unique style and melodies have always been something I wanted to play on. Lastly, I wanted a song that empowered women, as my mother was a woman of strength. I also have nieces that look up to me. This song, personally, means a lot since I personally produced it from start to finish.
Question: Your music blends elements of your Ghanaian roots with Toronto’s diverse soundscape. How do you balance these influences in your work?
Griff Galexxzee: I am very fortunate to be exposed to not only my Ghanian roots but to a diverse city like Toronto, Canada! I try to balance it by taking elements from each genre I really enjoy: pop, R&B, hip-hop, and funk. The beautiful thing about music is that it gives the opportunity to be creative and experiment.
Question: With “New Style” marking a significant evolution in your music, what new directions or experiments are you planning to explore in your upcoming projects?
Griff Galexxzee: With my up-and-coming project, I try to see how far I can push the envelope, so to speak. I am not afraid to try new things, and with that mentality, it opens up more doors and keeps people guessing what to expect. I don’t like to sound the same on every song.
Question: How do you think your earlier work, like “Facts Over Feelings” and “You Right,” has prepared you for this new chapter in your career?
Griff Galexxzee: My earlier “Facts Over Feelings” and “You’re Right” gave me the confidence I can make an impact with this music thing. After hitting the 1 million mark and charting on iTunes, it really sparked something in me to keep going and aim even higher.
Question: Can you talk about any collaborations or projects you’re excited about in the near future?
Griff Galexxzee: There is a boatload of talent out there, and a lot of artists I collab with are indie and not as known to the music scene. If I am looking at future collabs I would look forward to, I would say Drake, because we did a song way back! I would also say Chris Brown or Usher.
Question: You mentioned that seeing the “You Right” chart on iTunes was a pivotal moment in your career, boosting your confidence significantly. How has this experience influenced your approach to creating music, and how does “New Style” reflect that evolution?
Griff Galexxzee: “You Right” charted at a low point in my life and the evolution of “New Style” is a new chapter of Griff Galexxzee. It has made me embrace my craft more and take it a bit seriously. There is tons of talent out there, and its not often you get rewarded for your craft, and it has influenced me to never give up.
Question: As someone who continually pushes boundaries, how do you stay inspired and keep your music fresh and innovative?
Griff Galexxzee: A lot of times the things that keep me inspired are hearing all the unknown talent on Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, etc. that put out music hoping to be discovered. I do it for them! The independent artists that make music in their basement. A lot of things have been done already, so hearing something new keeps me going and experimenting and trying new things.
Question: Do you have any new releases or projects coming up soon that you can share with us?
Griff Galexxzee: I am currently working on a new release called “Golden Lights,” a rock-influenced song featuring Secret Suburbia, a talented rock band in Toronto. It is another element and versatility I want to share.
Question: Looking ahead, where do you see yourself in the next few years? Are there any long-term goals or dreams you’re working towards?
Griff Galexxzee: In the next few years, I want to be able to do movies, perform more shows and concerts, and start touring. I look forward to continuing to build the Griff Galexxzee brand.
