Thirteen years have passed since the release of her groundbreaking debut album, “Pink Friday,” and now Nicki Minaj is back with the highly anticipated sequel that fans have been craving.
In “Pink Friday 2,” Nicki doesn’t hold back as she charges through her adversaries with unbridled energy, showcasing the same indomitable wit that has solidified her status as a rap icon. As evidenced by her powerful track “Big Difference,” she boldly asserts, “Like my hunnids blue/ Bad bi–hes, yeah, I keep ’em by the two/ It’s a big difference between me and you/ I ain’t nothin’ like you, you, you or you.”
The album features an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Future on “Nicki Hendrix,” J. Cole on “Let Me Calm Down,” Lil Uzi Vert on “Everybody,” and gospel sensation Tasha Cobbs Leonard on the soulful track “Blessings.”
Preceding the album, Minaj treated fans to the lone single, “Last Time I Saw You,” which takes a more pop-centric approach. In a recent Vogue cover story, she revealed that the song explores the theme of guilt, a subject not often explored in music. Minaj explained, “It’s a song about guilt. And I don’t think people make a lot of music about the experience of guilt. But if you talk to any human being on earth about it, they would know exactly what you mean. That ‘I wish I had’ feeling. Once I wrote the hook, I started to think of people that I love and see every day and still take for granted. You know what I’m saying? So I hope the song does a good thing.”
Pink Friday 2 marks Minaj’s return to the music scene since her 2018 album, Queen, which boasted hit singles like “Good Form,” “Chun Li,” and the collaboration with Ariana Grande, “Bed.” Queen featured guest appearances from industry heavyweights such as Lil Wayne, Future, The Weeknd, and more. The album debuted at an impressive No. 2 on the Billboard 200, garnering 185,000 album-equivalent units. Now, with Pink Friday 2, Nicki Minaj reaffirms her reign in the rap world, delivering a sequel that lives up to the anticipation and showcases her undeniable prowess in the music industry.
