SZA‘s second album, “SOS,” has been officially certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The December 2022 release has sold two million units in the United States in just four months and received a double platinum certification about two months after earning a platinum plaque. The artist also received 12 additional certifications, including five platinum certifications (with a 3x and 5x platinum plaque) and seven gold certifications.
The “Kiss Me More” singer’s double platinum certification was revealed just days before Billboard announced that she had broken a record set by Mary J. Blige almost two decades ago. SZA’s “Kill Bill” is now the longest-running No. 1 track by a female lead on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at 16 weeks, overtaking Blige’s 15-week record for “Be Without You” in 2006.
SZA’s double platinum certification for SOS is a significant achievement, considering the short amount of time the album has been out. The artist’s ability to receive so many certifications is a testament to her immense popularity and talent. The album is packed with 25 tracks, featuring collaborations with Tyler, the Creator, Pharrell Williams, and others, and it explores themes of self-love, heartbreak, and spirituality.
This achievement solidifies SZA’s status as a leading female artist in the R&B and hip-hop genres. Stream “SOS” below.
