Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz have finally released their highly awaited joint project, “Welcome 2 ColleGrove.”
The 21-track project, spanning nearly an hour, boasts an impressive lineup of guest appearances, including 21 Savage on “Big Diamonds,” Usher on “Transparency,” Fabolous on “PPA,” Benny the Butcher on “Oprah and Gayle,” Vory on “Godzilla,” Rick Ross on “Can’t Believe You,” and Marsha Ambrosius on the closing track, “Moonlight.” Notably, “Welcome 2 ColleGrove” marks the first time Lil Wayne is recognized as a co-lead artist, addressing label issues that limited his credit in the 2016 predecessor. The chemistry between the two artists remains electric, evident in their mutual commitment to delivering their best on every track, resulting in a stellar listening experience for fans.
2 Chainz shed light on the collaborative effort in a previous Apple Music interview, stating, “We’ve been working on it for some time, had a lot of clearance issues, but for the most part, we’re two hardworking individuals who go in the studio every night.” He continued, emphasizing the healthy competition and mutual respect between them, “I think me and him just have that chemistry. We enjoy working with each other a lot, and it’s a lot of respect there. Still sharpens still. So, it’s always that little piece of anxiety of knowing that I got to this verse has to be better than the last one. I think it’s healthy. I think competition is healthy in any and everything that we do.”
