Brockhampton’s creative force, Kevin Abstract, is back in the limelight with the exciting announcement of his upcoming album, ‘Blanket,’ set to drop on November 3 under the labels Video Store and RCA Records. This album, the successor to his 2019 venture ‘Arizona Baby,’ promises a fresh sonic experience that defies genre boundaries.
Abstract, alongside producer Romil Hemnani and multi-instrumentalist Jonah Abraham, has crafted ‘Blanket’ to be a musical amalgamation, drawing inspiration from the likes of Sunny Day Real Estate, Nirvana, and Modest Mouse. In his own words, he aimed to create a sound that resonates like a rap album while carrying the essence of alternative rock legends.
The title track, which arrived alongside a visually captivating, self-directed video last week, gives fans a taste of what’s to come. With the teaser of another track, “Gum,” and a glimpse of the Blanket cover artwork, the anticipation is building for this groundbreaking musical venture.
Following the temporary hiatus of Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract has been on a creative spree. ‘Blanket’ is not just an album; it’s a testament to Abstract’s evolution as an artist, showcasing his versatility and willingness to explore uncharted musical territories. Since his last solo project ‘Arizona Baby,’ he has treated fans to tantalizing singles like “Slugger” and “Sierra Nights,” giving us glimpses into the sonic experimentation that awaits in ‘Blanket.’
Moreover, the Brockhampton family tree continues to flourish in various directions. Merlyn Wood recently dropped an EP titled ‘Dirty Thunder,’ displaying his unique musical prowess, while Dom McLennon shared the compelling track “Sweep” in September, adding his own flavor to the mix.
