Pau Gasol is joining the list of legendary players that have had their number retired. Gasol’s No. 16 jersey will be raised in the Crypto.com arena on March 7 of the 2022-23 NBA season. Los Angeles Lakers are honoring six years that Gasol spent playing for the Lakers. On Feb. 1, 2008, the Los Angeles Lakers acquired Pau Gasol in a blockbuster trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. In Lakers, Gasol teamed up with Kobe Bryant and won two championships together. In 2014, he was signed to the Chicago Bulls as a free agent.

On October 5, 2021, Gasol retired from the NBA after playing his final season with Spain. His No. 16 jersey will hang alongside other Lakers legends, such as Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, and Magic Johnson.
